Israel, Jews, and Antisemitism, Part 2
Antisemitism, known as “The Longest Hatred,” has exploded around the globe since the horrendous October 7 Hamas attacks on Israel. The Book of Revelation : Back to the Future, Part 2
The Truth Barista and Amazing Larry continue their crucial introduction to the Book of Revelation. The Truth Barista shares the situation of the seven Asia Minor Messianic Congregations relating to 1st Century Judaism and the rising persecution of the Roman Empire.
The Book of Revelation : Back to the Future, Part 1
The Truth Barista and Amazing Larry start on a remarkable new series on the Book of Revelation! You may have already heard strange teachings about the Revelation of Jesus Christ and found it confusing. But get ready for new insights from a Jewish background that unlocks this astonishing prophecy about the future.
You Don’t Worship Idols? Are You Sure? Part 2
Why is idolatry so appealing? Because it’s fueled by our desires and we look to things other than God to meet those desires. Doing so is like a husband or wife looking to another person other than their spouse for what they need or want. Since God is our sole supplier, should we look to anything or anyone else?
You Don’t Worship Idols? Are You Sure? Part 1
Are you SURE you don’t worship idols? We don’t think we do because many of us don’t have little statues in our homes. Au contraire, Pierre. The Truth Barista and Amazing Larry talk about the start of idolatry – the letter “I.”
Jesus, the Final Sacrifice
Why did the Father plan to send Jesus to die for us? Because He created us to be WITH Him forever. But sin separates us from God. Sin also puffs up our pride distancing us from Him even more. Our heavenly Father gave us pictures via the Older Covenant animal sacrifices that His Son would fulfill so we could be WITH Him again – forever!
The Book of Obadiah : Pride Will Be Judged! Part 5
Is the United States under the same prophetic judgment that Edom was in the book of Obadiah? Obadiah’s message goes far beyond the 840s B.C. The Truth Barista and Amazing Larry dig into the second half of Obadiah’s word that applies to all nations that attack Israel. Be sure to listen to the whole podcast for the eye-opening insight at the end!
The Book of Obadiah : Pride Will Be Judged! Part 3
The Truth Barista and Amazing Larry walk through the tumultuous events between Jacob and Esau (Genesis 27) that led to the Israelite-Edomite family feud that prompted Obadiah’s prophecy thirteen hundred years later. But it doesn’t stop there. This family feud continues up to today and explains the Arab-Israeli conflict!
The Book of Obadiah : Pride Will Be Judged! Part 4
The Truth Barista and Amazing Larry dive into Obadiah’s book to reveal the Edomites’ evil actions against the remnant of Israel as God’s people were being driven into Exile by the Babylonians. The Edomites felt they were untouchable because of their location, their wealth, their supposed allies, their wise men, and their army. But they didn’t take God’s measure for measure judgment into account.
The Book of Obadiah : Pride Will Be Judged! Part 2
The Truth Barista and Amazing Larry take a deep look at the Jacob-Esau conflict that is the basis for Obadiah’s message – the birthright and the blessing. Because of this conflict, not only did Obadiah indict the Edomites for abusing their “cousins,” the Israelites, but this same conflict fuels the ongoing Middle East conflict between Israel and the Islamic Arab nations.
The Book of Obadiah : Pride Will Be Judged! Part 1
How dangerous is pride? It’s a sin that draws the Lord’s judgment. The Truth Barista and Amazing Larry begin their dive into the Book of Obadiah to unwrap Obadiah’s message to the Edomites (the Israelites’ “cousins”) and why we should take his message very seriously today.
Christians and Cancel Culture, Part 2
The cancel culture warriors of the woke movement strive to silence the “barking dogs,” outspoken Christians and others they disagree with, and demand that they “heel.” Their motto is “If you can’t win the argument, shut it down.” How do we counter cancel culture? Bark the truth even louder and use all means possible to get the message out!
Christians and Cancel Culture, Part 1
What is cancel culture? It’s the woke movement’s way of forcing people submit to their Cultural Marxist worldview, values, and goals. The Truth Barista and Amazing Larry talk about the evil roots of today’s cancel culture and Marxism’s endgame.
Barking Dogs or Silent Dogs?
A silent watchdog is worthless. God’s leaders are called to speak up and declare the truth with love. Sadly, too many leaders remain silent in the face of evil and claim that confrontation is not loving. Or is it fear of man or losing church members, or diminished budgets? If our leaders refuse to bark God’s truth against our culture’s sin, are they worthless watchdogs? What about us Christians?
Jesus Speaks to His Churches … Laodicea, the Lukewarm Church, Part 8
Imagine Jesus saying to you and your congregation, “All of you make me sick. I don’t care how busy you are with ‘church work,’ it means nothing to Me. You all need some serious help. Get it together or you’re done!” This message is great for us today because our zeal for Jesus tends to cool off over time. Take the challenge and may Jesus ignite your fire for Him!
Jesus Speaks to His Churches … Philadelphia, the Faithful Church, Part 7
“Well done, good and faithful servant!” What Christian doesn’t want to hear those words when we stand before Jesus to give an account for our lives? What a remarkable commendation from our King! In this episode, we move from Sardis, the Dead Congregation, to Philadelphia, the Faithful Congregation. Despite trouble and persecution, the Philadelphia congregation stayed tight with Jesus. Are you faithful to Jesus? Are you full of faith (trust) and are you showing it to the world?
Jesus Speaks to His Churches … Sardis, the Dead Church, Part 6
What happens when we compromise God’s word as our guide to life? Compromise. What happens when we repeatedly compromise? Corruption. What happens when corruption takes over? Death. The Truth Barista and Amazing Larry follow sin’s influence from Smyrna (Compromise) to Thyatira (Corruption) to Sardis, the Dead Church. Sadly, there are too many churches in the Western world that fall on this spectrum. What’s the remedy? Exactly what Jesus speaks to them.
Jesus Speaks to His Churches … Thyatira, the Corrupt Church, Part 5
The Truth Barista and Amazing Larry move from discussing the Compromised Church to Thyatira, the Corrupt Church. Because the Thyatira congregation tolerated outright sin and other violations of God’s commands, a spiritual infection, a Sin-fection, has taken hold. If not addressed, the congregation is sliding toward spiritual death. Jesus’ solution? Repent, Thyatira!
Jesus Speaks to His Churches … Smyrna and Pergamum : Persecution and Compromise Continued, Part 4
The Truth Barista and Amazing Larry continue their discussion on what compromise means for Christians and church bodies, and why it harms our relationship with God. Christians must resist the temptation to compromise with the world and learn to recognize what is or isn’t compromising.
Jesus Speaks to His Churches … Smyrna and Pergamum : Persecution and Compromise, Part 3
Jesus promised that His followers will be persecuted. This has been proven throughout history and is increasing in our day. Sadly, too many Christians in the Western world compromise in the attempt to escape attacks. The Truth Barista and Amazing Larry discuss two contrasting churches – Smyrna, the persecuted Christians and Pergamum, the compromised congregation.
Jesus Speaks to His Churches … Ephesus The Lost Love Church, Part 2
The Truth Barista and Amazing Larry examine Jesus’ Words to His followers at Ephesus. How do they measure up? They’ve lost their fervent, devoted love for Jesus. Once that happens, life with Jesus often gets set on “cruise control,” we take Him for granted, and we start to move toward the world. We need to repent and fans the flames of our first love!
Jesus Speaks to His Churches … Then and Now, Part 1
The Truth Barista and Amazing Larry launch into a new series on the 7 Churches of Revelation 2-3 and what Jesus said to them. These early congregations were facing enormous struggles – persecution, lukewarmness toward Jesus, prosperity, deprivation, and other deep challenges. Jesus’ Words to them speak just as powerfully to us today as they did 2,000 years ago!
The Importance of God’s Word
God’s Word is so important that we should handle it properly. How do we do that? The Truth Barista and Amazing Larry talk about the danger of adding to and subtracting from God’s Word, and why the first five Books (Genesis to Deuteronomy) are the Bible’s baseline revelation.
Flawed People … Can God Use Us? Part 1
The “Jesus Revolution” movie illustrates a pivotal moment of God’s generation-shaking work through Chuck Smith of Calvary Chapel and Lonnie Frisbee. What’s most amazing is how God worked through struggling and flawed people to bring His Gospel to those many thought was unreachable … the Hippies. Do you think you’re too flawed for Jesus to use you? Think again!
Jesus, Our Red Cow? Part 3
In this episode, the Truth Barista and Amazing Larry reveal Jesus’ fulfillment of the Red Cow Law as our purification from death’s stain, which keeps us from our Heavenly Father. Once again, we see that the entire Torah (the Law) points directly to Jesus, even in the “not understandable” commands like the Red Cow purification process. Jesus’ sacrifice purifies us and opens the way to life!
Jesus, Our Red Cow? Part 2
The Truth Barista and Amazing Larry continue their talk about how death contaminates everything and how the Red Heifer sacrifice in Numbers 19 parallels Jesus’ remarkable sacrifice that purifies us from death’s touch. Yes, sin is a grave matter.
Jesus, Our Red Cow? Part 1
Whoa! What’s that all about? The Bible shows us all sorts of pictures that our Heavenly Father uses to describe Jesus and what He does for us. Yes, the Red Cow command in Numbers 19 is one of those pictures, although it’s very puzzling. Jesus is not only our Passover Lamb, He’s our Red Cow. Listen and find out why.
Wisdom : God’s Second Greatest Gift, Part 3
What is wisdom? Knowledge tempered by experience. We can also say wisdom is “knowledge forged in the fires of experience.” We need to appreciate the wisdom older and more mature Christians have developed over many years of walking with Jesus. James 1:5 invites us to ask God for wisdom – He promises to give it to us freely! Ask for wisdom!
Wisdom : God’s Second Greatest Gift, Part 2
The Truth Barista and Amazing Larry continue their discussion about wisdom. It’s so important to look to God for wisdom! We also need Godly, experienced, older men and women in our lives to impart wisdom forged in the fires of their experience with the Lord. God gives us the gift of wisdom and we should give that gift to the next generation.
Wisdom : God’s Second Greatest Gift, Part 1
What is wisdom and why is it different from knowledge? Where does it come from? Why is wisdom so valuable to us? In this first part, the Truth Barista and Amazing Larry take on the topic of wisdom and why wisdom is one of God’s greatest gifts to us, second only to salvation.
Salvation : God’s Greatest Gift, Part 2
Being “born-again” under the New Covenant is remarkable! It’s more than just converting to Judaism. Under the New Covenant, a complete inner transformation so that both Jews and Gentiles could become a part of God’s eternal kingdom. The Truth Barista and Amazing Larry continue their talk about what being born-again means for salvation.
Salvation : God’s Greatest Gift, Part 1
Do we go to heaven because we attend church? Will we live with God because we live good lives (we think) and do good works (yeah, right)? What does it mean to be “saved” or “born again” and how can we know for sure that we are? The Truth Barista and Amazing Larry share with you God’s Greatest Gift through the story of Nicodemus in John 3.
Praying in Times of Distress, Part 3
Why are guilty feeling so damaging to our prayer lives? What about when God told Jeremiah to not pray for the Israelites (Jeremiah 7:16, 11:14, 14:11)? What does it mean that God will heal our land when we pray properly? How does carrying offenses and unforgiveness hinder believers’ prayers? The Truth Barista and Amazing Larry tackle these tough questions and how they affect our prayers.
Praying in Times of Distress, Part 2
The Truth Barista and Amazing Larry take a closer look at 2 Chronicles 7:14 as our pattern to cry out to God in distressing times. Who is to cry out to God? His people. What should they do? Humble themselves, pray, seek His face, and turn from our evil ways. Why are all these components needed for effective prayer? Because they are conditions for God to hear and prayer.
Praying in Times of Distress, Part 1
The world has entered dark and distressful days. How do we call out to the Lord when we’re in trouble? The Truth Barista and Amazing Larry take a deep dive into 2 Chronicles 7:14 as our guideline. Prayer is more than words. Prayer is interwoven with our attitude, seeking God whole-heartedly, and a radical self-evaluation of our spiritual life.
The Book of Jude Part 6, Contending for the Faith V
Jude takes of the gloves and goes after the false teachers who are plaguing God’s people. These teachers were “hidden reefs” whose unbiblical teachings shipwreck the believers’ faith and Jude uses vivid descriptions to reveal just how dangerous these deceivers are. Jude wraps up his letter by encouraging his readers to watch out for these troublemaking truth-twisters.
The Book of Jude Part 5, Contending for the Faith IV
The false teachers according to Jude – wolves in sheep’s clothing. Once they find their way into the flock, they not only want you to accept them, the wolves that look like sheep want to push every sheep into their false teaching and promotion of sin. Watch out for their primary attack against congregational leadership.
The Book of Jude Part 4, Contending for the Faith III
Is it possible to turn God’s grace into a license to sin? Absolutely! And there’s a terrible cost for doing so. The Truth Barista and Amazing Larry wade into Jude 5-7 to talk about rebellion, even among Jesus’ followers. Rebellion against God brings inevitable judgment. Now, do you really want to use God’s grace as a reason to sin
The Book of Jude Part 3, Contending for the Faith II
How do we stop the quiet and subtle shift toward sin among God’s people? By grabbing sound doctrine and holding onto it tightly. The Truth Barista and Amazing Larry take on the initial verse of Jude’s warning to the believers about a crisis – false teachers have crept into the church! Has that happened to the church today? Sadly, yes.
The Book of Jude Part 2, Contending for the Faith
The Truth Barista and Amazing Larry pick up their study on the Book of Jude with Verse 2. What does it mean to “contend for the faith?” It means we need to know and take a firm stand for God’s truth that has been clearly established (canonized) for the last 2,000 years. Why? Because even today, false teachers sneak into Christian communities and twist God’s truth into a license to sin.
Introduction to Jude, Part 1
Welcome to the Book of Jude. The Truth Barista and Amazing Larry lay out the background of Jude’s letter to give us a historical foundation. After all, good Bible study starts with context, context, context. Then we move to the Who, What, When, Where, and Why. Grab your Bible, notebook, and a good cuppa Joe!

The Nephilim Giants, Part 2
Fe, Fi, Fo, Fum ... so goes the giant's declaration in the old English rhyme. But aren't giants just make believe? Not according to the Bible! In fact, giants were a major problem both BEFORE and AFTER Noah's flood. They were Israel's feared foe as they sought to conquer Canaan. Where did these giants come from? If they appeared after the flood is it possible that they could reappear? Who were the Watchers? Are they Biblical? (Short answer, yes!) Is there any other information about them? (Check out the Book of Enoch!) Are they related to modern-day demons? You will be amazed! Check out Part 2 of the Truth Barista's Bible Giant study!
The Nephilim Giants, Part 1
Did giants really roam the earth in Noah's day or didn't they? It depends upon your world-view and view of the supernatural! One of the trickiest things about reading and studying the Bible is when to take a section figuratively or literally. Sometimes, both can be applied. Isaiah 7 is one such double interpretation verse. On one hand, Isaiah prophesies about a physical son as a sort of "timer" of Aram's destruction (Aram was threatening Jerusalem). On the other hand, time has proven this same section as pertaining to a coming Messiah. "See, the virgin will conceive, have a son, and name him Immanuel." (Isaiah 7:14) Well, Genesis 6 is a puzzler as well. Were there giants in Noah's day, offspring of spiritual beings (the Watchers) and human women? Take a listen to part 1 of a two-part series on the Nephilim, the giants, of Genesis 6!
Is it God’s Call or Just Narcissism? Part 1
One of the BIGGEST drives in people's lives is the desire for significance. No one wants to feel insignificant. To some degree, we all want to believe we're making some sort of impact in life. But this desire is greatly amplified and twisted when coupled with narcissism. Here's your definition of NARCISSISM (American Heritage Dictionary): "A personality disorder characterized by an exaggerated sense of self-importance, need for admiration, and lack of empathy." This is a dangerous combination in the fellowship of Jesus' followers (the Church). Many "Seek God's call on their lives." Rightly so, because He has called us to a life with Him and service to others. But the search for significance often DRIVES some Christians to distraction to find out what that specific call is. Even worse, when narcissism is added to the mix, this intensified drive turns its focus from God to the person. And now we have a real problem. Take a listen and really think - is my desire for ministry out of love for Jesus or self-centered narcissism?
Is it God’s Call or Just Narcissism? Part 2
So, after listening to the previous episode, how are your toes? If they weren't stepped on, that's a good sign. It means you're on the right track. YES! God has something for everybody to do in this life. Read the Bible and we find that it's Love God and Love People. We can add Live Right, Reveal the Light (Jesus). It's that simple. BUT sometimes our desire for greater significance takes us to places and pursuits God has no desire for us to grasp for. If propelled by narcissism, we can easily mistake our yearning for "personal greatness" as a "call of God." Dangerous territory, my friend. Take a listen to Part 2 of this fascinating topic!
Talking Revival, Part 2
The Truth Barista and Amazing Larry continue their talk about revival. What are the hallmarks of true revival? Is revival what a church presents or what people experience? Can you have a revival if something isn't “vived” first? Take a listen, and may the Lord fan the flames of love for Him in your heart!
Talking Revival, Part 1
Revival. What do you think of when you hear that word? An old-fashioned tent meeting with a portable baptism tank and a sawdust floor? A church service with a hot worship band, light show, and ecstatic singing? Is this what real revival is? Is it a matter of the art or the heart?
What About Divorce?
So, can a Christian or any person ever get divorced? If not, why? If so, under what conditions? Is divorce EVER an option for a Christian and if they do will they forever remain a pariah to be shunned by one and all? Can a divorced person ever remarry or are they under a perpetual sentence of singleness? These are questions that have stumped many Christians and brought pain and suffering to struggling marrieds and pain-touched divorced people. Take a listen to the Truth Barista and Larry to find HOPE and HEALING!
Don’t Fear!
Many people live in various levels of FEAR! Afraid to speak up, afraid of what life will bring them tomorrow...or TODAY! Afraid of losing a job or a loved one. True, things that cause us to fear are all around us. Can we live in a state of NO FEAR? It all depends on what and who you know. If you find yourself living with fear, join the Truth Barista and Amazing Larry for a Friday talk about the antidote to fear!
A New Look at New, Part 6
What makes the New Covenant new? It’s not a brand new, never-before-existing covenant. It’s the Old Covenant made new – Covenant 2.0, so to speak. But it comes with a “new heart and spirit,” an indwelling Holy Spirit, and an implanted Law of God that is easier to understand and follow because of how God “re-news” us.
A New Look at New, Part 5
“Therefore,” he said to them, “every teacher of the law who has become a disciple in the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house who brings out of his storeroom treasures new and old” (Matthew 13:52). What does this mean in light of Jesus’ parables of new patches on old cloth and new wine in new/old wineskins? You’ll be surprised with this “new” look at a “renewed” Law of God!
A New Look at New, Part 3
How do we understand Jesus when He talks about old versus new patches, old versus new wineskins? We have to know which word for “new” is used in the text and the cultural context of Jesus’ discussion with the Pharisees about what is proper teachings and practices to help backsliders return to God.
A New Look at New, Part 4
What prompted Jesus’ discussion of new versus old patches and wineskins? It was both His and the Pharisees’ passion to reach the “sinners” or backsliders of their day. These “sinners” were Jews whose relationship with God was lax and needed reviving. Jesus’ teachings matched His Father’s Torah, not the Pharisees’ teachings. His was a “new” take on the “old” Law.
A New Look at New, Part 2
Old versus new patches, old versus new wineskins. What does Jesus mean? He’s comparing the Pharisees’ teachings versus His “new” (but actually, old) and how they are both trying to reach out to the backsliding sinners of their day.
A New Look at New, Part 1
Old versus new patches, old versus new wineskins … what the heck is Jesus talking about? Jay the Truth Barista and Amazing Larry take on this remarkably tough to understand lesson. The key is to understand what Jesus meant by “old and new.” For this, we need to understand the Greek words and the Hebrew ideas blended within the text.
Getting Our Heads on Straight: Western vs Hebraic Thinking, Part 9
Jay, the Truth Barista, and Amazing Larry wrap up the topic about the difference between the Western and Hebraic mindsets and how both worldviews radically affect how we read God’s word, experience God, and live as a Christian community. Listen to how Jesus’ followers drifted from a Jewish background to a Greek/Western influence.
Getting Our Heads on Straight: Western vs Hebraic Thinking, Part 8
Jay the Truth Barista and Amazing Larry tackle the topic of worship as it’s approached by the Western vs. Hebraic mindset. Is there a difference? Yes! A big one. It’s a different as knowing about God and knowing God, and much more. Check it out.
Getting Our Heads on Straight: Western vs Hebraic Thinking, Part 7
Jay the Truth Barista and Amazing Larry use their study on the Western vs. Hebraic mindset to focus the light on congregational life and leadership. Hang on. This will get bumpy!
Getting Our Heads on Straight: Western vs Hebraic Thinking, Part 6
How does the Western mindset differ from the Hebraic mindset regarding congregational life? It’s amazing how we can see the Hebraic mindset at work in the New Covenant Early church. And yet, many of our congregations today seem so different. Jay and Larry talk about why this is.
Getting Our Heads on Straight: Western vs Hebraic Thinking, Part 5
How do you “know” God and His guidance? How are we to live as God’s people? That depends on your mindset. The difference between a Western and Hebraic mindset makes a huge difference!
Getting Our Heads on Straight: Western vs Hebraic Thinking, Part 4
How easy is it for you to read a menu held sideways? How about upside down? It’s possible, but difficult. You might order the wrong dish because your vision isn’t oriented properly with what you’re reading. The same thing is true with the Bible. A Western mindset often misreads the Bible because our minds aren’t oriented the way the Bible writers penned what the Spirit was revealing to their Hebraically-oriented minds. For example, how do the two mindsets understand God? You may be surprised.
Getting Our Heads on Straight: Western vs Hebraic Thinking, Part 3
How has your brain been trained? Is your head on straight? If we try to read the Hebraic scriptures with a Greek mindset, it can greatly affect the meaning. Jay the Truth Barista and Larry explore how the two mindsets look at the Universe and God.
Getting Our Heads on Straight: Western vs Hebraic Thinking, Part 2
Western vs Hebraic thinking is a fascinating subject because it deeply affects how we study the Bible and live our lives for the Lord. For example, Western thinking is about information while Hebraic thinking is about training – information applied. Jay and Larry explore how Jesus’ followers moved from the Hebraic mindset to the Gentile Western mindset.
Getting Our Heads on Straight: Western vs Hebraic Thinking, Part 1
Why do so many Christians have trouble understanding the Bible or correctly interpreting it? A big part of those problems is how we think. The Bible was written by a people with a Hebraic mindset rather than a Greek-Roman mindset and those differing mindsets have had a huge impact, even a negative one on Western Christianity. It’s time to get our heads on straight.
You Can Learn a Few Things From Demons, Part 3
Truth Barista Jay and Amazing Larry continue their discussion about demons based on the unclean spirits’ exclamation, “I know who You are – the Holy One of God” (Luke 4:34, Mark 1:24). What does it mean that Jesus is the Holy One of God? Why do demons react so wildly to Jesus’ holy presence?
You Can Learn a Few Things From Demons, Part 4
Cultural Christianity knows less about Jesus than demons do. While demons cried out, “I know who You are – the Holy One of God” (Luke 4:34, Mark 1:24), many cultural Christians would respond, “Is Jesus really God’s Son? Is Jesus the Holy One of God or just a man?” Speaking of low biblical knowledge, sadly, many churches don’t even acknowledge demons even exist. And yet, confronting demons was a major part of Jesus’ kingdom ministry.
You Can Learn a Few Things From Demons, Part 5
Why is it Christians are afraid of demons and the world system? One answer is we don’t know Jesus as well as demons do. What would happen if Christians truly understood Jesus’ power, authority, and holiness? How would that affect our impact on society?
You Can Learn a Few Things From Demons, Part 1
Sadly, demons know (and believe) more about Jesus than most Christians today! Truth Barista Jay and Amazing Larry begin a Bible study series about demons based on the unclean spirits’ exclamations, “I know who You are – the Holy One of God” (Luke 4:34, Mark 1:24) and “You are the Messiah, the Son of God” (Luke 4:41).
You Can Learn a Few Things From Demons, Part 2
Truth Barista Jay and Amazing Larry continue their discussion about demons based on the unclean spirits’ exclamations, “I know who You are – the Holy One of God” (Luke 4:34, Mark 1:24) and “You are the Messiah, the Son of God” (Luke 4:41). Where did demons come from? Why do they want to attack, even inhabit, human beings? What is our best defense against demonic forces? How does God’s holiness help us?
Jesus and the Law – Jesus Didn’t Come to Start a New Religion
Truth Barista Jay and Amazing Larry plow through the error that “Jesus came to start another religion.” Christianity’s origin came from a completely Jewish source. Over the course of a couple of centuries, as Jesus’ messianic stream of Judaism received more Gentile followers, the Jewishness of the Early Church was sidelined. One of those casualties was God’s Torah (Law).
Jesus and the Law – Walking the Narrow Road Part 2
Truth Barista Jay and Amazing Larry finish Jesus’ teaching on the Law (the Torah) in Matthew 5:17-7:29. According to Jesus, His Father’s Law is still in effect and is still our guidelines and commands to live right with God. But we must watch out for diversions (wolves). How do we tell good teachers from bad ones? By their fruit – what their lives and teaching produce.
Jesus and the Law – Walking the Narrow Road Part 1
Following Jesus is not for wimps. Why? Because Jesus expects us to live His word as HE intended it to be lived and following His commands (the right way to live God’s Law/Torah) is a “life or death” choice (Matthew 7:13-20). It’s easy to follow our desires, but more difficult to reject those desires to follow Jesus’ way.
Jesus and the Law – Judging Others Part 4
Truth Barista Jay and Amazing Larry dig further into Matthew 7:7-12 and how it applies to bringing a judgment-based correction to a person who isn’t receptive or even hostile to you.
Jesus and the Law – Judging Others Part 3
So now that we’re learning that we can judge other people and how to judge them correctly, Truth Barista Jay and Amazing Larry take on a very familiar verse to many Christians, Matthew 7:7-12, and reveal its main meaning isn’t about praying. It’s about why we should pray regarding judging others.
Jesus and the Law – Judging Others Part 2
What is the proper way to judge others? It starts with you! Do we ignore the same sin in us that we’re addressing in others? And if you see clearly, what if the person doesn’t want your help? Jesus has a lot to say about “dogs and hogs.”
Jesus and the Law – Judging Others Part 1
Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 5-7 is about His Father’s Torah, commands that guide how we are to live. So why does Jesus talk about “not judging other people in Matthew 7:1-6? Does He really intend that we do not judge other people and how they act? To the contrary! It’s about how to judge God’s way, the proper way.
Jesus and the Law – Possessions, Worry vs Trust Part 2
And now we reach the high point of Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 6:31-34 about possessions and how we should deal with them in a Godly way. Jesus’ point? “You mind my business, and I’ll mind yours!”
Jesus and the Law – Possessions, Worry vs Trust Part 1
Worry is a tremendous indicator of possessions' place in our lives! Jay, the Truth Barista, and Amazing Larry look at Matthew 6:25-34 and how worry or trust shows our possessions’ grip on us.
Jesus and The Law – Possessions, The Battle of the Two Masters

Unholy Alliances
Beware of Being Unequally Yoked. Christians are Called to Avoid Unholy Alliances. With the recent wave of civil unrest justified by claims of racism, people are being challenged to show their support for groups such as Black Lives Matter. The news has been filled with pictures of people kneeling in solidarity. But what if the group demanding solidarity stands opposed to Jesus and His Word? Now the Christian must decide their greater allegiance. But the Bible is clear. The Kingdom of God should have our highest allegiance, even if it means standing in opposition to the culture. Christians are called to avoid unholy alliances, meaning claiming allegiance to both God and any entity that opposes God. But to do so might cause conflict and uncomfortable repercussions. Are you prepared for that, O Christian?

You Mind My Business and I’ll Mind Yours
Anxiety has been a major problem for humanity since the Garden of Eden rebellion. What is anxiety? Where does it come from? What is the solution for anxiety? Are Christians immune from anxiety? Only if Christians take to heart Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 6:25-34. When challenged with the needs of everyday life, we often jump to the conclusion that we’ll have to meet them ourselves. And yet, Jesus tells us our Heavenly Father has promised to meet those needs. All He wants is for us to keep our focus on Him, His Kingdom, and living Godly lives. During times of anxiety, this is very calming and reassuring!
Jesus, Our Firstborn Elder Brother Part 4
And now Jay the Truth Barista pulls this teaching all together! Now that you know about the importance of being a firstborn elder son, now you’ll see how this all comes together in Jesus as our King and Priest! What once belonged to the firstborn son of the family – becoming ruler and mediator between God and the family – now comes back together in Jesus as the King and High Priest over His Father’s family as our Firstborn Elder brother. Prepare to have your mind blown!
Jesus, Our Firstborn Elder Brother Part 3
WOW! THIS IS MIND-BLOWING! Okay, all this stuff about firstborns and their profound role in ancient societies is eye-opening, right? But this applies to Israel as a NATION as well! God called Israel his firstborn son, "And you will say to Pharaoh: This is what the Lord says: Israel is my firstborn son" (Genesis 4:22). Therefore, firstborn son status, rights, and responsibilities apply to the nation of Israel among their sibling nations. Imagine what that means! BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE! Jesus is also a firstborn son. Therefore, both Israel and Jesus share the unique status as a God-birthed firstborn son. WOW! Please pardon the Truth Barista for misspeaking in the podcast. Jacob did not emerge first at birth, Esau did. “When her time came to give birth, there were indeed twins in her womb. The first one came out red-looking, covered with hair like a fur coat, and they named him Esau. After this, his brother came out grasping Esau’s heel with his hand. So he was named Jacob (Gen. 25:24-26).
Jesus, Our Firstborn Elder Brother Part 2
Jay the Truth Barista unpacks EVEN MORE about the Biblical firstborn! Jesus, Our Firstborn Elder Brother Part 1
Most of us know how important firstborn children are to their parents, especially firstborn sons to their dads. They are the pioneers, the "guinea pigs" for the new parents, the dominant child that often pushes their siblings around because "they know best," right? This is nothing new. From the very beginning (see Genesis 1-2) firstborn status is critical for understanding ancient Israelite culture, God's sovereign choices, and Jesus' role in God's family as our "firstborn, elder brother." After this series, you will never see the role of the firstborn son the same way!
Are We in The End Times? Markers and Signs Part 6
At last! The final episode which reveals and sums up the markers of God's prophetic End Times plan first revealed through Daniel and affirmed by Jesus. Jesus' End Times talk in Matthew 24 (also Mark 13 and Luke 21) touches on the simple and clear markers that signal the final countdown to His return. Two major markers have already occurred: (1) Israel becoming a nation in 1948 and (2) Jerusalem coming back under Jewish rule in 1967. A confirming sign is the repopulation of Israel's land as multitudes of Jews have returned home and are still returning. We are definitely in the prophetic "pipeline!" But there are still a few stunning markers yet to occur! Are you watching Jerusalem? Are you ready?
Are We in The End Times? Markers and Signs Part 5
Why don't many pastors preach about the Biblical End Times? In truth, the topic is NOT SAFE! It takes time and training to educate oneself about eschatology. And even if a pastor does so, preaching on the End Times is a minefield of discussion and dispute and that is a fearful thing to a pastor whose main goal is to maintain peace. The topic itself is a SCARY topic about an UNSAFE and INSECURE time for God's people. Yes, God wins, but turmoil and persecution are promised for His people! Jay the Truth Barista shares MARKERS and SIGNS to help us understand whether we're in the End Times or not without the fear factor!
Are We in The End Times? Markers and Signs Part 4
God IS going to establish His Kingdom on earth. How do we know that? The Lord clearly revealed it to Daniel in a couple of revelations over his lifetime. He revealed to Daniel a succession of human kingdoms on earth, three of which are easily identified and a 4th whose identity is in dispute. These kingdoms HAVE come to pass and one of them is going to reappear in the End Times to create havoc on earth. These four kingdoms are big "markers" along the path of God's prophetic revelation. But there are other significant markers, one of which is revealed in this episode - the Tamid or Daily sacrifice. Jay the Truth Barista and Amazing Larry take a dive into Daniel's 7th and 8th Chapters to look at God's unfolding End Times revelation. Are you ready to dive deeper?

Are We in The End Times? Markers and Signs Part 2
What with worldwide pestilences, wars, saber-rattling between China and the United States, food shortages, and the very real risk of global famine … why you'd think it was TEOTWAWKI (The End Of The World As We Know It)! Many people think so and they may be right. BUT, signs are not what we should be looking for. We should be looking for SPECIFIC MARKERS. Daniel gave us specific markers to clearly indicate the time of the End and Jesus affirmed them. Jay the Truth Barista and Amazing Larry go through the sure markers and the signs that surround them. This will blow you away!
Are We in The End Times? Markers and Signs Part 1

When God Draws His Sword on You
Joshua 5:13-6:5 You know about Joshua and Jericho, right? Well, here's a fascinating take on what leads up to the Jericho conquest. Joshua is on a reconnaissance mission in the middle of the night. And SUDDENLY a figure looms out of the darkness with a drawn sword! What does this mean? Why would this figure have a sword pointed at Joshua? Perhaps it was to make sure Joshua knew who was in charge? Knowing God as Commander-in-Chief is crucial for us to interact with Him, know what He wants us to do, and how to do it. It also has a profound application for person-to-person relationships among Yeshua's people, especially in times of conflict.
Sorry, Jesus Ain't a Gentile!
Jesus had long blond hair and blue eyes, right? You know, like in all the Euro-centric pictures and movies. Wrong! Jesus (Yeshua) was thoroughly Jewish. And without understanding Jesus' Jewish context there is SO MUCH we 21st Century Jesus followers miss. Regardless of our ethnicity or race, we're not allowed to make Jesus in our image. We MUST start with a 1st Century Jewish frame of reference to get a more accurate picture of His life, ministry, and message.
People Run Wild, A Talk About a Misunderstood Verse
Proverbs 29:18 is one of the most misinterpreted, misunderstood, and misapplied scriptures even though many Christians know it by heart. They focus on "Without revelation, people run wild" but ignore the second half of the verse, "but one who follows divine instruction will be happy." This verse has been memorized by many as "Without a vision, the people perish" and they use it as a justification to spend a lot of time, energy, and talent wrestling with church "vision-casting" and mission statements. While these things are good things, they have a faint secondary application to this verse. The truth of the verse just might step on your toes. You are forewarned!
Encouragement!
What is encouragement? I'll tell ya what it is! It's GREAT! Everyone needs it and no one gets enough. Believe it or not, encouragement is actually a powerful ministry of the Body of Christ. The Holy Spirit is known as the Encourager. There is the ministry gift of encouragement (Romans 12:8, "exhorting"). And, there's just regular encouragement. Take a listen and be encouraged! Yes!
Keeping Our Way Pure

Retracing Our Steps Back to God!

Israel's Fall
What caused ancient Israel to fall? Since culture has a tremendous impact on a nation's success or failure, was there something(s) about ancient Israel's culture that brought decay and degradation and led to God allowing them to be conquered and exiled to Babylon? What makes us in the United States think we're immune from the same effects of cultural rot? Is cultural rot infecting the Body of Christ? This podcast is for all, especially for Christians who want to be "culturally relevant."
Into the Unknown!
Life has seemingly turned upside down. Just a few short weeks ago, life was going on as usual for most of us. Then … coronavirus. Now the questions start. "Do what?" "How long?" "Why?" "What am I going to do?" Yes, what we thought we had figured out was actually just an illusion. Life is a big UNKNOWN. We have no idea what is coming minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day, week by week, year by year. How do we handle the stress of staring into the abyss of the unknown? The Bible has a clear answer and clear examples. Jay the Truth Barista has some real encouragement for you!
Messin' with God's Treasures!
Belshazzar, the last king of Babylon learned a very swift and harsh lesson about messin' with God's treasures. You see, he took the Temple treasures his ancestor, Nebuchadnezzar, captured from the Jews' Jerusalem Temple in 586 BC and used them for a drinking party in honor of Babylon's gods. As he did so he mocked Israel's God. BIG MISTAKE! God's hand appeared and wrote out his judgment … death, Babylon's judgment, overthrown … which was carried out that very night. Here's the point. We can REALLY anger God and invite his discipline (if not judgment) when we mess with His treasures. And here's something scary … God has treasures that go far beyond the Temple treasures. How about people, relationships, worship services, and so on? Take a listen to Jay the Truth Barista and Amazing Larry but be prepared for a BIG challenge!

Pestilence, Pandemics, and Plagues … Oh My! Part 1
The novel coronavirus COVID-19 is moving around the world. Some react by panicking! For others, it's just a highly contagious flu-type virus. Some are linking it to other events happening around the globe and declaring the End Times with God breaking the seals of the Book of Revelation, "When he opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature say, “Come!” And I looked, and there was a pale green horse. Its rider was named Death, and Hades was following after him" (Revelation 6:7-8). So, is this happenstance, hype, or hysteria? Is this the BIG disease that is destined to wipe out humanity or pass by with little harm or somewhere in between? Jay the Truth Barista and Amazing Larry tackle this topic with history and a big steamy cuppa God's truth.
