The President Trump/King Jehu Parallel

HighBeamMinistry.com

“When he (the prophet) arrived, the army commanders were sitting there, so he said, “I have a message for you, commander.” Jehu asked, “For which one of us?” He answered, “For you, commander.” So Jehu got up and went into the house. The young prophet poured the oil on his head and said, “This is what the Lord God of Israel says: ‘I anoint you king over the Lord’s people, Israel.” (2 Kings 9:5-6)

Does the Bible prophesy Donald Trump as God’s choice for our President? If you’ve been even slightly awake politically over the last nine years, especially in church circles, you know about the numerous prophecies about President Donald Trump’s first and a second term. The second term didn’t happen as expected, so those prophetic voices were heavily chastised and mocked. With the recent election, I guess crow is on the menu.

But those are the prophets’ voices. Does the written word of God prophesy about Donald Trump as God’s choice for our President?

Well, maybe not precisely. But then again, maybe so. We can’t see it clearly right now. As I’ve often taught in my classes, “Prophecy is best judged in retrospect.”

There is no doubt that God raises up leaders for His purposes. The Bible tells us about God raising up rulers as He sees fit (Daniel 2:20-21, Romans 13:1). Yehovah hand-selected Israel’s kings (Saul, David, Jeroboam, et al.). God even chose a Gentile king, Cyrus, for His purposes (Isaiah 45:1-7; Ezra 1:1).

Could Yehovah have raised Donald Trump to be our President? Yes. Did He? Most certainly, according to what we just read above. National leaders are supposed to be God’s people whom He expects to cooperate with Him by leading their nation with righteousness.

Do all leaders do this? Certainly not. All we need to point to are just a few insignificant examples, such as Stalin of Russia, Chairman Mao of China, and the always-called-upon-by-the Left-as-their-convenient-smear, Hitler of Germany. But just because a leader goes rogue from God’s ways doesn’t mean God has lost His sovereignty over leadership selection for whatever purpose.

I believe we have a modern-day example of the Lord raising a leader to do what needs to be done. This leader is twice-elected President Donald Trump. And the Bible seems to give us a revelation into God’s purposes for him.

Messianic Rabbi Jonathan Cahn of Beth Israel Worship Center in Wayne, New Jersey, prophesied that President Trump would be similar to King Jehu of the Northern Kingdom of Israel. Is this true? The parallels are remarkable.

Please watch the two videos before you read on, as I will refer to both of them.

Let’s summarize the similarities you just heard.

Israel’s situation:

When Yehovah called Jehu to lead, the northern kingdom was similar to our nation today. Corruption ran deep. Many of the people had turned from their God and followed other gods. Immorality was sweeping the nation, injustice was the norm, and innocent blood flowed from child sacrifice.

A once united nation was a deeply divided nation: Israel, the northern kingdom, and Judah, the southern kingdom. Both suffered from the same spiritual and societal rot. Just peruse the books of the major and minor prophets to grasp God’s scathing reviews of His people.

However, all was not lost. In the midst of the political cesspool, Yehovah brought forth Elijah the Prophet. Under Elijah’s ministry, Yehovah began to shake His people out of their stupor and draw them back to repentance. He sent a drought and famine to prove that He alone controlled the weather, not the Canaanite god, Baal. Then, on Mount Carmel, Yehovah dropped an unmissable, astounding proof that He was the one and only God with whom Israel was in covenant.

After the contest on Mount Carmel, the northern kingdom of Israel experienced a remarkable return to God after serving the false gods, Baal and Ashtoreth (see 1 Kings 18, especially verses 18-19, 38-40). However, the evil, wretched, vile, disgusting, corrupting wench, Jezebel, threatened to kill Elijah. The threat was enough for Elijah. The mighty prophet hit the road and fled as far south as He could go to Mount Sinai to hide from the vicious woman (and I use the term “woman” lightly).

God made a surprise appearance to Elijah on Mount Sinai and told His prophet that three people would complete the repentance movement that started under Elijah.

“Then the Lord said to him, “Go and return by the way you came to the Wilderness of Damascus. When you arrive, you are to anoint Hazael as king over Aram (from outside of the nation). You are to anoint Jehu son of Nimshi as king over Israel (from inside the nation) and Elisha son of Shaphat from Abel-meholah as prophet in your place (Yehovah’s director). Then Jehu will put to death whoever escapes the sword of Hazael, and Elisha will put to death whoever escapes the sword of Jehu.” (1 Kings 18:15-17).

Did you catch that? Yehovah planned to raise up Jehu to deal with the rot within the nation, the corrupto-crats who were leading the people straight to hell.

As Yehovah’s opening shot before Jehu was called, King Ahab fell in battle according to the Lord’s word (1 Kings 22:20, 34-35), leaving wicked Queen Jezebel in charge. Jehu’s story commences at that point in 2 Kings 9-10. Why not pause here and read the two chapters before you move on to the summary?

Good, you’re back. Carry on.

Jehu’s characteristics

Jehu was not a political insider but an outsider (2 Kings 9:5). He was wild and unpredictable, a disrupter of the corrupt status quo, refusing to capitulate to the swamp (2 Kings 9:18-20). Notably, Jehu appeared not to be an overly “religious” man, but he was filled with zeal from the Lord to accomplish His purposes. It sounds kind of like President Trump, whom many detractors labeled as coarse, rude, mad, and a bull in a china shop.

Jehu’s calling

God chose Jehu to drain the swamp. Jehu was called to ferret out and erase Israel’s embedded idolatry and put an end to the corrupt leadership, starting with King Joram (Ahab’s son). Joram’s removal was followed closely by King Ahaziah of Judah’s downfall at Jehu’s hands. Why a King from Judah? Wasn’t Jehu supposed to purge the northern kingdom? True. But King Ahaziah had married Ahab and Jezebel’s daughter, Athaliah, who was also leading the people away from the Lord and into idolatry. Jehu’s call included stopping the shedding of innocent blood (child sacrifice to Baal). He was called to scrape the entire system of its spiritual scum.

What’s President Trump’s tagline? Drain the Swamp.

Jehu’s actions

After being called by Yehovah and receiving his marching orders (2 Kings 9:6-10), Jehu’s followers recognized the Lord’s anointing on him. Jehu was bold and decisive, immediately getting to work following Yehovah’s commission (2 Kings 9:14-16). We saw that during President Trump’s first administration. However, the Deep State and entrenched political foes fought him every inch of the way. It still amazes me how much President Trump has accomplished despite the opposition from Washington insiders and the intrigue of alphabet agencies. After the recent election, I’m awed by how fast President Trump is assembling a proven and trustworthy team. They realize they only have twelve to eighteen months to do the deepest housecleaning.

Jehu “raced to the throne like a madman,” allied with the religious conservatives of the land (2 Kings 10:15-16), and began to drain the swamp by “removing” King Joram, King Ahaziah, Queen Jezebel, the political establishment of Israel and Judah, and the corrupt religious leaders after which he tore down Baal’s temple and made it into a public toilet. This description characterizes President Trump’s first term and our hope for the second.

Jehu remained in power for twenty-eight years. Sorry, CNN and MSNBC. Presidents only get two four-year terms. Counter to the Left’s hysterics, President Trump has no intention of becoming emperor for life.

What a fantastic career Jehu had. But there’s more to the story.

Jehu’s mistake

But while Jehu was faithful to fulfill Yehovah’s commission, “Jehu eliminated Baal worship from Israel,” he failed in his whole-hearted devotion to the Lord (2 Kings 10:28-29). Jehu fell under God’s judgment for the idolatry he had allowed to remain in the land. “But (Jehu) did not turn away from the sins that Jeroboam son of Nebat had caused Israel to commit—worshiping the gold calves that were in Bethel and Dan” (2 Kings 10:29, 31; Hosea 1:4). Yehovah decreed that Jehu would have four of his sons as successors (2 Kings 10:30), but then Jehu’s family would be judged.

Gulp.

Yes, I believe President Trump mirrors Jehu’s characteristics, calling, and actions. Like Jehu, President Trump faces an entrenched, corrupt, and morally bankrupt leadership and bureaucracy, dead set on keeping its back turned on God, pushing sexual perversion to the nth degree, and screaming for the blood of babies via totally unrestricted abortion. The parallels are clear to me.

And that’s what concerns me.

King Jehu failed because he didn’t finish the job.

King Jehu had a great start. Right out of the gate, he tore it up for the Lord. However, after the initial rush of adrenaline and the main characters were (ahem) removed, the core issue, national idolatry, was left to decay. That cancer grew until it infected both Israel and Judah, bringing both kingdoms down and the citizens into exile.

Will the same thing happen to President Trump and any of his children or followers who succeed him? Will our nation suffer if our modern-day King Jehu fails to complete his task? Time will tell.

The biggest thing we need at this time is a massive and deep move of God over our entire nation. Only the Spirit can bring national repentance, forgiveness, and cleansing at the level we genuinely need. Only then will our country be healed according to 2 Chronicles 7:14, “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land” (italics mine).

Heal their land. That’s what we need. We’ll know that President Trump, his cabinet, and the people of the United States have followed the Lord’s path ultimately when our nation is stable and godly.

Just one quick note. When President Trump was elected, there was a hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico named Rafael. In Hebrew, the name is Raphael, which means – God heals. I hope and pray that this is a sign from the Lord that national healing is on the way from our Sovereign God before whom our President must kneel.

Yes, time will tell.
