“Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love.” (1 Corinthians 16:13-14 ESV)
What’s in a name? An example, I think.
Charlie
masc. proper name, also Charley, familiar form of Charles (also see -y (3))
Charles
masc. proper name, from French Charles, from Medieval Latin Carolus, from Middle High German Karl, literally “man, husband” (see carl).
Kirk (n.)
“church,” c. 1200, surviving as a northern England and Scottish dialectal word, from a Scandinavian source such as Old Norse kirkja “church” (see church (n.)).
Charlie Kirk (Man/Church) was exemplary of what a man of Jesus’ church, a truly godly Christian man in this world, should be.
Today’s church is so much less than what it should be in example and impact. Christian men are generally not what they should be as men of God.
As gotquestions.org puts it, “A true man, like Jesus, is obedient to the Father’s will and is about His Father’s business (Hebrews 10:9). Like Christ, the godly man will shun sin and follow after righteousness. He will, in the power of the Spirit, seek to keep God’s law and live in God’s will. He will evince a determination to accomplish God’s will, whatever the cost (Isaiah 50:7). He will endure opposition and never lose heart (Hebrews 12:3). He will be a man of the Word, using Scripture to overcome temptation (Matthew 4:1-10). He will be a man of prayer (Mark 1:35). He will be a man of love and sacrifice (John 13:1) … A true man knows what is right and stands firm in the right. A true man is a godly man. He loves the Lord, he loves life, and he loves those whom the Lord has entrusted to his care.”
No, we shouldn’t try to be Charlie Kirk. There was only one Charlie Kirk, and never will be again. God made Charlie and broke the mold. But we should become like the God-Man, Jesus, modeling His image to the world.
Let’s emulate the Jesus-like traits Charlie embodied. Let’s stand shoulder-to-shoulder with his legacy of meeting a lost world head-on with grace, compassion, intelligence, and mercy.
Jesus, grant us the grace to meet your standard.
