Deep Thoughts, Episode Seven

HighBeamMinistry.com

You know, it’s been a while.

I think it’s time for another edition of Dr. Jay’s Deep Thoughts. I know, I know. Some of you are still recovering from the astounding profundity of the last one. For whatever reason, good or bad. Regardless, I’m gonna bless y’all with some of the inklings I have sparking in my head.

Either that or it was a concussion. Not sure.

Anyway, enjoy them. Dislike them. Murmur and complain about the content. Serves you right. You had your chance to stop reading, but no, you had to keep going—and I’m glad you did—just a little light fare for the mind and soul. Enjoy (or not).

·         Kibosh (Yiddish) - to put an end to, squelch. Likely derived from the Hebrew word kavash, meaning “subdue” from Genesis 1:28.

·         Morning thought: Some say we should be prepared for Jesus’ imminent return. Don’t get me wrong. I’m convinced that Jesus was telling the truth when He said He would return. However, it’s far more likely you will go to meet Him through death than via His Return. The question is, “Are you ready to meet Jesus if death comes to you today?”

·         Morning thought: How many people awakened just this morning, not realizing this would be the last day of their lives? (Take a moment to let this sink in, dear reader.) 1) Were they ready? 2) If they were, will they look back as they separate from their bodies and regret they hadn’t done more for God, or will they be satisfied they strove to make every day as productive for God as they could?

·         Morning thought: Our death or Jesus’ return—There is coming a moment when we can do no more for the Lord out of our love for and gratitude to Him. Where are you at today? What will you do today?

·         (Warning! Political comment incoming!) Today’s word lesson: Theocracy – rule by God. Democracy – rule by Dems. That’s all you need to know when a Democrat screams, “Democracy!” (We now return to your regularly scheduled Deep Thoughts.)

·         One of the tellers at my bank asked me years ago what I was doing for my wife for Valentine’s Day. I said, “Nothing.” Shocked, she asked, “Why?” I responded, “If you don’t show love to your wife (or significant other) every day throughout the year, one day won’t matter.” I was thinking about that during this year’s Ash Wednesday observance when I saw people walking around with ashes signifying repentance. What does repentance matter if it’s just a day? Wouldn’t it be better if it’s done when the Holy Spirit prompts you to change a particular part of your life? Wouldn’t it be best to maintain daily awareness of God and keep a very short list throughout the day?

·         My only comment to the anti-Christmas-because-there-are-non-Christian-elements-that-became-part-of-the-Christmas-tradition crowd this year (with respect): Jesus’ association with a particular day on the calendar does not lessen who He is or what He has done.

·         So, if you compose a wicked orchestral work, is it a Sin-phony?

·         Observation on racism: Yes, there is systemic racism. It is in the system of fallen human nature. And it’s not limited to any one particular race. The truth is, only God can fix it.

·         Observation on racism: The sin of racism will never go away until we enter the messianic age. For now, it can only be controlled. And controlling racist thoughts and feelings can never be worked on by any person upon another or any outside source. It can only be remedied by the individual themselves.

·         Observation on racism: When deliverance ministry (removing demonic entities) was bursting on the scene in the 1970s, many people began to see “demons behind every tree.” Why? Because it was on their minds 24/7. So, why do you think some people see racists behind every face?

·         “He comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any kind of affliction, through the comfort we ourselves receive from God” (2 Corinthians 1:4). Imagine that! God has given us all the ministry of comforting others!

·         If you’re going to reject the clear teachings of scripture, please drop the evangelical label. Maybe the “Christian” designation as well. The door is always open, just not on your terms.

·         “Your ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. This is the bread that comes down from heaven so that anyone may eat of it and not die” (John 6:49-50). Jesus, the man is better than the manna. (John 6:51)

·         I was remembering when President Trump was impeached twice during his first administration. The Democrats’ two impeachment votes against President Trump have added “because we don’t like you” to the reasons of high crimes and misdemeanors.

·         Woke people need to wake up.

·         I’ve often written and talked about those simple pleasures of life. Perhaps it’s time for the Simple Annoyances department. Case in point – It’s pronounced, Nu-cle-ar. Not Nu-cu-ler. It’s amazing how many professional radio and TV personalities say it wrongly.

·         Babies don’t arrive without pain. Neither do revivals.

·         If ignorance is bliss, there should be more happy people.

·         My move from Minnesota to Florida some years ago was a harsh reminder of an important lesson. God may give you a promise, but that doesn’t mean it’ll be easy or that you do nothing. Often, it takes blood, sweat, and tears—and LOTS and LOTS of prayer and perseverance! You know, like making it through life successfully and standing before King Jesus. “Therefore, my dear friends, just as you have always obeyed, so now, not only in my presence but even more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling” (Philippians 2:12, italics author).

·         Truth is mental floss.

·         “... God took one of his ribs and closed the flesh at that place. Then the Lord God made the rib he had taken from the man into a woman...” (Genesis 2:21-22) The word for rib (tsela) also means “side.” It appears God was the first to split the Adam to create the foundation of the nuclear family. That would also mean the Man and the Woman were the original Halflings (h/t J.R.R. Tolkien). So ends today’s class. I’ll see myself out.

That’s it for this installment of Deep Thoughts. Something for everyone, right? Stay tuned for our next foray into the weird landscape of my mind.
