You know, it’s been a while.

I think it’s time for another edition of Dr. Jay’s Deep Thoughts. I know, I know. Some of you are still recovering from the astounding profundity of the last one. For whatever reason, good or bad. Regardless, I’m gonna bless y’all with some of the inklings I have sparking in my head.

Either that or it was a concussion. Not sure.

Anyway, enjoy them. Dislike them. Murmur and complain about the content. Serves you right. You had your chance to stop reading, but no, you had to keep going—and I’m glad you did—just a little light fare for the mind and soul. Enjoy (or not).

·         Thought: When Jesus was on earth, He was His Father’s Apostle, Prophet, Pastor, Teacher, and Evangelist. When Jesus ascended, He left us behind as His Body, equipped us with His Holy Spirit, and raised some to function as Apostles, Prophets, Pastors, Teachers, and Evangelists. To say that the prophetic ministry no longer functions today is to say that Jesus no longer functions as a Prophet through His Body. And who gave us the right to deny Jesus exactly how He will work through His Body?

·         Perspective: A worship service or a church worship service? The difference between worshipping the Lord and worshipping a church presentation.

·         This was the prayer the Lord impressed on me this morning:

“Lord, God of Israel, raise up many men and women of God who will serve as your war prophets. Men and women who will receive supernatural intelligence to tell Israel what the kings of the earth are planning to execute against them, so that their plans may be countered and thwarted. Lord, Israel faces insurmountable odds if the nations of the earth advance together. Please stand and defend your people. Release the war prophets.”

8 When the king of Aram was waging war against Israel, he conferred with his servants, “My camp will be at such and such a place.”

9 But the man of God sent word to the king of Israel: “Be careful passing by this place, for the Arameans are going down there.”

10 Consequently, the king of Israel sent word to the place the man of God had told him about. The man of God repeatedly warned the king, so the king would be on his guard.

11 The king of Aram was enraged because of this matter, and he called his servants and demanded of them, “Tell me, which one of us is for the king of Israel?”

12 One of his servants said, “No one, my lord the king. ELISHA, THE PROPHET IN ISRAEL, TELLS THE KING OF ISRAEL EVEN THE WORDS YOU SPEAK IN YOUR BEDROOM.” (2 Kings 6:8-12, emphasis mine)

·         I believe we’re witnessing the rise of global radical Islam. It’s always been a spiritual war between God and the Usurper (Satan/Allah), who wants the Lord’s throne. The Usurper’s people are fighting God’s people for the covenant birthright and blessing (Ishmael’s descendants; Genesis 21:8-21). God alone has determined who received it (Isaac), but it won’t stop the Usurper’s people from fighting for it. Islamicism is breaking out in major cities right now. The mask is off. Pray for Israel.

·         If your congregation embraces people who struggle with sin and works to help them get free and grow in line with God’s word and Jesus’ example, that’s legit. If your congregation embraces people in open opposition to God and works to help them stay enslaved in open rebellion against God, let’s be honest - that is not a church nor Christian in any way. It’s a pagan temple, a mockery of Christianity (as the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence are), and the same old “Thanks, God, but we’ll do this our way” mantra. The proof is in the fruit.

·         No matter what happens in the future, God is still on the throne. Don’t think that what you understand or misunderstand in any way diminishes His Sovereign control over the affairs of humanity.

·         PRIDE month. Is this really something to be proud of? “So God abandoned them to do whatever shameful things their hearts desired. As a result, they did vile and degrading things with each other’s bodies.” (Romans 1:24)

·         Drag Queen Story Hour: Kid-friendly corruption.

·         God speaks in sudden and surprising ways. Lying here in bed, reading the news, and catching up on FB. Pandora Radio starts playing The Emotions’ song, “Best of My Love.” When the chorus hit “You got the best of my love,” the Holy Spirit said to me, “Yes, you did.”

·         Eternal is an amazing word. When does it start and when does it end? The moment you step in and out of the line at the Dept of Motor Vehicles.

·         What helps us not to sin? Resisting sin or wanting to be like Jesus? Resisting sin is the “Wet paint. Don’t touch!” Solution. Wanting to be like Jesus is a desire of the will and a better motivation.

·         When the world is in control of institutions, they become sin-stitutions. The only hope is for those institutions to be led by godly and moral people. Until then, the rot will continue to spread.

·         To me, the shortest verse in the Bible says the most about Jesus. “Jesus wept.” (John 11:35)

·         Another adventure in Bible study. “The one who believes in the Son has eternal life...” (John 3:36). Did you catch that? The statement about having eternal life is in the present tense. That means from the moment you receive God’s offer of salvation, you begin living your eternal (everlasting) life. Even though physical death interrupts our physical life, there is no interruption of our spiritual life and our never-ending relationship and communion with God and His presence. After death, we’re just waiting for our bodies to catch up with our everlasting life already in progress.

·         Power is never a substitute for character. We need God’s power, but we need God’s character first. “Those who are faithful over little (character) will be faithful over much (power).” (Luke 16:10, adapted)

·         To those whom God trusts, great things can be entrusted to them.

·         Jonah pulls up a chair at the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. “Really? Fish?”

Well, that’s it for this installment of Deep Thoughts. Something for everyone, right? Stay tuned for our next foray into the weird landscape of my mind.
